Silk fabric is a noble material, from the obtaining of the thread to the weaving. In our case, we follow this process; printing, washing, and confection. It is an artisanal and laborious process.
There is a belief that washing a silk scarf is delicate and it is not like this. To help you with the washing process we will explain to you how to do it correctly without damaging the silk scarf.
The silk scarf tends to get dirty as a result of possible stains, such as makeup or daily use of it.
To guarantee a good washing we have the possibility of doing it both by hand and by machine. In both cases, we will use cold or warm water.
By machine:
If our washing machine has the wool program, we will use this one, since is the most effective.
It is important to add a little fabric softener so that the silk scarf gets soft and has the same touch as before washing it.
We cannot make excessive use of fabric softener since we could damage the silk scarf to the point of breaking it.
Handwash:
As we have said before, the water always has to be cold or warm. First of all, if you have a localized stain on your silk scarf, such as a lipstick stain, don’t worry. To remove it, just apply a few drops of soap to the area and rub with your fingertips in circles to avoid deforming the silk fibers.
The rest of the silk scarf, which will be immersed in the bucket with warm water, we should only wash it with the rest of the soap to appreciate again the initial soft touch of the silk scarf. Definitely, do not leave it to soak. This is very important.
After washing the silk scarf, we will move on to drying.
It can be done in two ways, either we put it in the dryer or let it air dry.
Dryer:
If you decide this drying method, we recommend the cold air program.
Keep in mind that the scarf will be dry in about 5 – 10 minutes.
In the air:
To dry in the air the silk scarf, we recommend hanging it from the bar of the bathtub or shower; half for each side for about 5 – 10 minutes.
To take into account a couple of things, never hang the silk scarf with a clothes peg, because the fibers would deform irreversibly; Do not hang it outside to dry in the sun, as it can burn all kinds of colors.
There is no need to be afraid when ironing the silk scarf.
It is important to do it at maximum temperature and with steam.
In case a wrinkle persists, you will have to moisten the scarf with a sprayer.
By using the iron at a maximum temperature, the same steam will help us to have a silk scarf without wrinkles.
We hope these tips will help you keep your silk scarf with the same quality as the first day.
